Version history for “Tracks!”.

02/12/23 -- 1.2.3 - Made it shareware. (You're welcome.) Added mini-icons. It works in Classic (OSX) mode, and has been compiled with the latest version of CodeWarrior. This is my birthday gift to you.

02/03/24 -- 1.2.2 - There's a bug in Pro Tools 5.1 that let's fades get separated from their parent region (even when saved as an earlier version). This caused "Tracks!" to think there were holes in the cue and region start was placed where one wasn't wanted.

Tracks now handles fades differently. The start time of a region is now at the end of the fade that precedes it, unless the fade is at the start of a group then the start of the fade is picked up as the start time of the region.

There was some confusion: Tracks! does not yet open Pro Tools 5.1 session files directly. Sessions must be saved as an earlier version (5.0, 4.3, 3.2). [02/04/12]

02/01/24 -- 1.2.1 - Put the ReadMe file back into the compressed package.

01/04/14 -- 1.2.1 - Fixed an error in the way footages are displayed. Occasionally the last digit of the footage was left off with option to not show frames.

00/11/12 -- 1.2 - There comes a point when you just have to release it. This is beta 3 packaged for release. The dialog box that says you (Tracks!) ran out of memory still doesn't work and will not be fixed. This may only happens for very large session files, multiple reels with tens of tracks wide. Just allocate more memory in the Finder, if needed.

00/09/24 -- 1.2b3 - I found the memory leaks! It also seems they were only present in the other beta versions. Be careful walking around your computer if you have been walking in stocking feet. The leaky memory may have gathered into puddles around your computer…

This 3rd beta version of should also not be much functionally different from version 1.1 except for AppleEvents. Again, there has been a lots of rewriting, re-arranging of "Tracks!" into more manage-able smaller files.

Known bugs: The dialog box that says you've (Tracks! has) run out of memory still doesn't work. It comes up at the correct time, it just displays worthless information.

00/06/05 -- 1.1.1 release - Found a PACE setting that caused the program to quit running on May 30, 2000. My intention was to have the demo mode stop working on that date 'cause there'd be new versions at that point. It turns out the "drop dead" date applies to even licensed copies. This is not what I had in mind. Added more contact information to PACE dialog boxes.

00/05/23 -- 1.2b2 - This 2nd beta version should also not be much functionally different from version 1.1 except for one major addition: AppleEvents! "Tracks!" now supports Drag and Drop from the Finder. Yeah, I know, these are the Core Events that need to be supported for System 7 compatibility and we're getting into System 9 now… Many of my smaller applications have had support for the Core Events but I wanted to find the time to break those standard routines into more something more generic and easily reusable. DragAndDrop is so useful for solving lots of little problems. Again, there has been a tremendous amount of rewriting, re-arranging of "Tracks!" into more manageable smaller files, and massaging it to fit my generic form to apply the AppleEvents template. The only real functional difference is the addition of the core AppleEvents.

The File menu has been changed. It has all the standard items even though they are not used. "Save" no longer processes the last opened file and remains dimmed. "New" has been add and also stays dimmed. "Close" does the same thing as "Quit", for those of you who forget what button to push or menu to grab.

Known bugs: There seems to be a memory leak from somewhere that pops up about the third time it's run with a large file. I'm posting it as is because I've got to work on some other projects for awhile. Elaboration on situations that cause crashes is appreciated. It's fine after quiting and restarting the program.

The instructions have been changed slightly. And it's a "pdf" file.

00/03/28 -- 1.2b1 - This beta version of should not be functionally different from version 1.1, except that it has only PPC code, no 68k. There has been a tremendous amount of rewriting, cutting out about 25% of the code. Other parts of the code have been modified to be more like C++ rather than straight C. Programming in C++ will allow the use of the vast number of libraries that will take some of the work out of building a better user interface and adding features like printing. There is also a low memory warning dialog that stops and goes back for large sessions rather than just quitting. The instructions are the same as they've always been.

00/01/30 -- 1.1 - New Version! It's now Pro Tools 5 compatible. Though not considered a bug, "Tracks!" will not handle MIDI tracks from PT5 sessions. If this should be considered a bug let me know! It now uses the newest PACE copy protection that is compatible with the new G4s and OS9, though "Tracks!" has only been tested on machines from a Mac IIci with System 7.6.1 to a G3 300-DT with 8.6 and works fine on those platforms. Changed the demo period to a set number of launches, six. The program has also been compiled with Metrowerks CodeWarrior where earlier versions were compiled with Symantec Project Manager. Many calls have been updated to match the new lib names. A bug was found that kept the proper settings from being used sometimes when "Tracks!" was sent to process a session file using the menu rather the "Open/Save" button.

99/11/17 -- 1.0.4 - Added more templates for grouping regions. These use the "Conditional Formatting…" command only available in Microsoft Excel 98.

98/06/22 -- 1.0.4 - Fixed bug that prevented opening of 24 bit sessions when clicking "Open/Save" button. Fixed bug that prevented opening of all version 4 sessions when using "Open…" from the File menu. Uses the new PACE protection; another 30 day demo period available to those who downloaded an earlier version.

98/04/09 -- 1.0.3b - Not a program change. Found a way to shrink the About Box picture storage amount by half while maintaining resolution. Cool. Fixed web site and e-mail address references in the application to refer to this site. Sorry for any confusion.

98/02/19 -- 1.0.3a - Also not really an upgrade. Addressed a problem with remote authorization. Earlier downloaded copies may not allow demo period to be extended. Changed a Finder flag.

98/01/05 -- 1.0.3a - This not really an upgrade. I've added templates for ClarisWorks.

97/12/22 -- 1.0.3a - This may not be any different from version 1.0.3. It seems that the virus--even after being removed--will mess with the code in a way that it may have trouble running on 68k machines. I made double sure this was a complete rebuild of the "Tracks!" code with the clean, virus free compilers (68k & PPC). Hopefully the only errors are my programming errors.

97/12/20 -- 1.0.3 - Found "MBDF A/B" virus in compiler and other programming files. The virus was also found in beta versions of "Tracks!", but earlier release versions did not contain the virus. The program was newly compiled with the repaired compiler. Virus has been eliminated and the uploaded file checked with SAM 4.5.1 and found to be virus free.

SAM sometimes misses the virus when set to "quick scan" mode...

This version also has a more direct demo period dialog and settings. Some application resources have been encrypted.

97/10/29 -- 1.0.2 - Fixed improper bundle/icon setting.

97/10/28 -- 1.0.1 - Demo period now really can be extended.

97/10/24 -- 1.0 - Original upload.
